Canton – Marie Eveline Grondin, 75, a resident of Otis St., Jay, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 18, at Victorian Villa Nursing Home where she received tender loving care throughout her illness.

She was born June 2, 1932, in Jay, the daughter of Cleophas and Marie Blanche (Caron) Grondin. She attended St. Rose School for several years and worked at Livermore Shoe Co., in Livermore Falls. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, in Jay, and a member of St. Jean Baptiste.

She was a very shy and quiet girl until she was introduced to the SPRED Program through the Rev. Hockman from the Diocese of Portland. This is a special religious education program for people with undeveloped mental disabilities. Being a part of this organization were the best years of her life and where she found the most joy that she shared with her very special forever friends, and to this day every member feels the same friendship for each other.

She is survived by her sister, Marie Claire Sawtelle of Canton, formerly of Jay; a nephew, Lawrence Michael Sawtelle of Jay; and cousins in Canada.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Conrad Grondin; a sister, Mary Dolores Grondin; two infant brothers; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Robert Sawtelle; and nephew, Jeffery Sawtelle.
