WALES – The School Committee will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday to discuss progress on school consolidation.

It will be followed by the regular committee meeting beginning about 7 p.m.

Wales is a member of School Union 44 and is working with member towns Litchfield and Sabattus to comply with state-mandated efforts at consolidation. It appears there are three options: reforming the current four school administrative units – they are the towns of Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales, and the Oak Hill Community School District – into a stand-alone Regional School Unit; joining Lisbon, which is in School Union 30; or joining SAD 11 that includes Gardiner, West Gardiner, Pittston and Randolph.

A combination of Union 44 and Lisbon would result in a total student population of about 3,000 and joining with SAD 11 would result in about 3,800 students. Financial data on all possible consolidations has been received from the Department of Education and is in the process of be analyzed.
