Seabury Lyon of Bethel says, “We the People” are losing faith and confidence in equal justice and equal protection (Letter, July 7). He says apathy and cynicism present a real and present danger to American democracy.
He further says the people want President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Attorney General Gonzales impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors and for outrages committed against our Constitution and our citizens.
First off, Lyon doesn’t speak for the people; at least not for me. And, second he doesn’t specify what high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed.
Lyon, along with fellow Bush haters, fail to consider that since the 9/11 attack, President Bush has presided over a country that hasn’t suffered any further attacks by radical Islamic terrorists. And while taking the war to these terrorists, he has presided over an economy that is the envy of the world because of his tax cuts. His tenure has produced 3 million to 4 million new jobs, 4.6 percent unemployment, low interest rates and a record stock market.
And, now we hear from some previously anti-war people the surge is working. Can all these accomplishments and winning a war against these radical Islamic fascist terrorists and giving another 20 million people in the world the opportunity to have a stable government and decent life be considered impeachable crimes?
Perhaps the Minnesota bridge collapse, the Utah mine disaster and the upcoming September hurricane will provide new ammunition for the “Impeach ’em” zealots.
