FARMINGTON – Alice Viola Soper Farrington, 95, of Jay, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 22, at the Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington.
She was born June 15, 1912, in Chesterville, a daughter of Charles O. and Viola (Whittier) Soper. She was educated in Chesterville schools, and graduated from Kents Hill Seminary, now known as Kents Hill School, in 1929. She went on to attend the Farmington Normal School, now known as the University of Maine at Farmington.
After teaching school for two years, she married Charles C. Farrington, June 20, 1931, in Jay, where they made their home.
She was employed in the office of Dr. Herbert M. Zikel in Wilton, for 22 years. She later worked for Dr. Fiorica in Livermore Falls, and part time for Dr. Chester Mitchell in Wilton.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wilton, the North Jay Grange and the Phippstown Club of North Jay. She was also a past board member of the Franklin County Division of the Maine Cancer Society, the Tri-County Mental Health Agency and Community Action in East Wilton.
She enjoyed reading, working on her genealogy, gardening and helping others.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Julian and her husband, John, of Cape Elizabeth; a son, Stephen Farrington and his wife, Rita, of Jay; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, on March 21, 1984; a sister, Abbie L. Soper, R.N.; and a brother, George Soper.
