AUBURN – The School Committee has a new member.

The School Committee voted unanimously to appoint Thomas Kendall to replace outgoing member Greg Desgrosseilliers until a full election can fill the at-large seat in November.

Kendall, 57, is self-employed as a timing and results service provider for ski competitions, bike races and other athletic contests. He served on the School Committee for two terms in the 1980s. In a letter to the School Committee, he said he plans to seek a full School Committee seat this November as a Ward 3 representative.

Kendall takes over in September for Desgrosseilliers, who has accepted a job with Naval Sea Systems Command and will be moving to Washington, D.C.

Three people applied to replace Desgrosseilliers. The others were Reta Herrick and Todd Sampson.

A few School Committee members said they liked Kendall because they thought he could “hit the ground running.”
