WILTON – Marcelyn Faye Martin Farnum, “Marcy,” 79, of Wilton, died peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family on Wednesday morning, Aug. 22.
She was born at her childhood home in Wilton, Sept. 26, 1927, a daughter of Angus and Inza (McLaughlin) Martin.
At the age of 16 she graduated from Wilton Academy and continued her education at Bliss Business College, in Lewiston.
On Oct. 3, 1948, she married Paul Farnum. Together, they raised their family and were orchardists in Wilton. He died on May 12, 1999.
She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family, working on the family farm, and going on fishing trips with her husband.
She was always a gracious hostess who loved to entertain friends and family.
In her younger years, she also enjoyed skiing and playing golf.
She always enjoyed watching a variety of sports.
She was a member of the Wilton Congregational Church and was very charitable with her time. Her artistic talents, evident throughout her home, included refinishing antiques, stenciling, painting and making hand-cut lampshades.
She is survived by three sons, George Farnum of Wilton, Marty Farnum and his wife, Sheryl, of Farmington, and Paul “Andy” Farnum of Farmington; three sisters, Maureen Moore of Bucksport, Merilyn Dunham and her husband, Birdell Dunham Jr., of Wilton, and Bonita Oakes of Hampden; two grandsons, Chet and Peter Farnum; a brother-in-law, George Farnum and his wife, Mary, of Wilton; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Martin of Pennsylvania, and Phyllis Martin of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers Vernon and Russell Martin; a half brother, Kenneth Martin; and two half sisters, Katherine Macgrath and Caroline Warren.
