Navy Seaman Recruit Natalee Amber Smith has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., where she helped her ship’s division win such flag honors as athletics, scholastics, battle and drill, as well as the Captain’s Cup and the Chief of Naval Operations Flag.

Smith is the daughter of Jay and Tracy Smith of Otisfield and the granddaughter of Mike and Annette Coulombe, Dave and Christine Smith and Brian Mello and Sen. Lois Snow-Mello.

Because of her exceptionally high scoring in a battery of Navy tests, Smith will move forward as she attends the advanced technical and operational training required for her duties as a machinists mate.

Such duties cover assignments from operating and maintaining ships machinery to damage control.

Her particular field has a statistical average of 70 percent at sea.
