VFW to meet

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at noon Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, 1675 Lisbon St.

All officers and members are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include upcoming programs: poppies, high school scholarships and junior high school essay awards.

Eligible veterans wishing to become members of the VFW can contact Armand Bussiere at 688-2291.

Cemetery cleanup

GREENE – The Valley Cemetery Association is requesting that all spring and summer arrangements, baskets or anything that people do not want to be discarded be removed by Saturday, Sept. 15, before fall cleanup. For more information, call Sandy Bates at 946-7067.

Reiki forum

LEWISTON – A free forum on Reiki will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at d’Youville Pavilion resident dining room, 102 Campus Ave.

Participants will learn easy-to-use self-healing techniques and try a sample treatment. Jeffrey Hotchkiss will facilitate the forum. Light refreshments will be served. Call 753-5467 to register by Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Hotchkiss is a Reiki master teacher and licensed emergency medical technician, with a focus on elder care. He has volunteered his time with elders for the past 10 years.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Aug. 20 were: first, Ron Reynolds and Les Buzzell; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Luke Merry; third, Cynthia Bonsey and Nancy Lindgren; first in B, Helen Little and Alberta Turner.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for more information.

The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 21 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Mary Leahey and Patricia Quinn; second, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert; fifth, Linda Leotsakos and Janet Arey.

Tied for first in Flight B were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner with Richard Balian and Richard Allen. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the center.

The club also met on Aug. 22 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Richard Balian and Marta Clements; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, John and Linda Jonis; fourth, Tom Randall and Janet Laing.

Flight B winners were Richard Balian and Marta Clements. Another game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Schooner Estates. For more information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.

There will be no game held at Schooner Estates on Wednesday, Sept. 5. On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the Instant Matchpoint Game will be held. The game awards gold points to North/South and East/West first-place winners and overall winners ACBL-wide.
