ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – A Maine man was charged with making a series of bomb threats that shut down segments of the state Thruway on Wednesday morning.
Derek Schultz, 30, of Limington, Maine, was arrested and jailed without bail Wednesday.
State police said Schultz was verbally abusive with McDonald’s staff at an Albany-area travel plaza and left in an agitated state.
The bomb threats were made between 9 and 10 a.m. to state police regarding the Thruway travel plaza in Guilderland. A third threat was made concerning the Canaan Toll Barrier on the Thruway’s Berkshire Spur.
Schultz was later arrested for three counts of falsely reporting an incident. He was also found to have a quantity of fireworks in his vehicle, leading to a charge of unlawfully dealing with fireworks.
