Lewiston – E. Robert O’Connor Jr. died suddenly, but peacefully, Aug. 21, shortly after arrival at Central Maine Medical Center.

Robert was born in Dublin, Ireland, March 14, 1962, to Mary Lou Edelbach and Edward R. O’Connor. His mother died after a long illness in 1964, when he was only 2 years old.

His father remarried in 1965, to Marcella Mary McDonald, and relocated the family back to Washington, D.C. With his family he lived in Ottawa, Canada, and Paris, France, before relocating to Maine in 1980.

He met Wendy, his wife, in 1983, and they were friends for many years before falling in love and marrying in May 2005. He was a dedicated husband and loved his life with Wendy.

He worked in many different jobs, including health care facilities, and eventually became a heating industry professional.

He worked for Mr. Paul Dupuis in the heating industry for many years, prior to starting his own company. He worked long hours on-call to make his company, Patriot Heating, a success, and earned himself a reputation as one on the most professional and reliable heating industry professionals.

He was constantly seeking out new tendencies and techniques in the heating industry, attending many conferences and seminars to keep abreast with the latest.

He was very involved in the local community, getting involved in numerous local projects. He was a member of the National Oil Service Manager Association, Pine Tree Chapter, and served on many boards for the city of Auburn. He loved Maine and the outdoors, spending a lot of his free time exploring many of its many wilderness areas. Fishing and wildlife were passions, as well as restoring old cars and motorcycles. He loved his home he had made with Wendy, and was constantly involved in improvement projects on his land and house.

He had a unique, exuberant and loving personality. He brought humor, love and energy to all of our lives, and is irreplaceable in our hearts.

Besides his wife, he is also survived by his mother, Marcella; his sister, Mary Joan O’Connor, with whom he had a very close and loving relationship; and his mother and father-in-law, Leo and Theresa Haynes.

Also an important part of his life was the extended family, the Walsh family in Boston, and the Dillon family in Washington, D.C.

He was also close to his father, Edward O’Connor, who passed away in 2000.

Robert also had a wide circle of lifelong friends whom he treasured very much and who will miss him terribly.

He was also very dedicated to his “babies,” Leila and Derby the dogs, and Merlin and Smoky the cats.
