Police urge caution as schools open

LEWISTON – School starts next week and the Police Department reminds motorists that they need to be cautious while driving.

Police will strictly enforce the laws as they relate to speeding in a school zone, passing stopped school buses, seat belt use, failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, as well as all other traffic laws.

Police officers will be stationed in school zones throughout the city for enforcement. “School zones are in place for a reason,” Police Chief William Welch said. “These are areas where there are many children present and a speeding vehicle poses great danger.”
