Expect traffic delays Sunday from 8 to 10 a.m. for the ninth annual L/A 5K Bridge Run.

The morning will also include a 1K Kid’s Fun Run that will temporarily close the South Bridge for approximately 15 minutes. The moderately flat and fast 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. starting on Riverside Drive and crossing South Bridge, turning left on Oxford St. into Railroad Park to the Riverwalk heading behind Festival Plaza and onto Main Street in Auburn.

Runners will cross the Longley Bridge back into Lewiston and proceed uphill to Canal Street where they will turn right and continue to Locust Street down to Lincoln Street. They will turn right and continue to Cedar and turn left back across the South Bridge and finish in front of the Rollerdrome.

The 3.1-mile race is on a USATF-certified course that crosses many bridges. The race is also part of the Grand Prix race series and Maine Senior Games. Participants can register on Active.com or register on race day for $15 for the 5K race and $5 for the Kid’s Fun Run.

All kid’s will receive ice cream and 5K runners will receive awards for the top three finishers in all age categories. Overall male and female winners will receive a $100 cash prize.

Course records are Ethan Hemphill with a time of 15:14, and Kristin Barry with 17:19.

Gift certificates and prizes will drawn for runners following the race. All proceeds from the race go to L/A Trails, a nonprofit organization that helps to create and advocates for multi-use recreational trails throughout Lewiston and Auburn. Race day registration is at 12 Riverside Drive in Auburn from 7 to 8 a.m.
