LEWISTON – Dr. Peter E. Sedgwick, a family physician who specializes in sports medicine, has been added to the Central Maine Medical Center Medical staff.
Prior to beginning his work in the Lewiston-Auburn area, Sedgwick completed a sports medicine fellowship at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He also completed his family medicine residency training at Maine Medical Center.
A graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., Sedgwick earned a master’s degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. He completed a one-year pre-medicine curriculum at Harvard Extension School in Cambridge, Mass., and was awarded his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Mass.
Sedgwick has been recognized with several academic awards, including a University of South Florida Graduate Fellowship Award and a Student Leadership Award from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. As a medical student he was also recognized with the Stephan Esfathiou Memorial Award for humanitarianism in medical care. He was elected to the Sigma Xi Society at Williams College, where he graduated with highest honors.
His experience in sports medicine includes service as assistant medical director of the 2006 and 2007 Maine Marathon in Portland and as team physician at Bonny Eagle High School and St. Joseph’s College, both in Standish. He has worked as part of the Portland Pirates medical team, and has interest and experience in wilderness medicine.
He has worked as a researcher and educator in a variety of capacities, and from 1998 to 1999 was a staff scientist for the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland, Calif.
He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Association of Family Practice, and the American Medical Association.
Sedgwick’s office is at Suite 200 at the 76 High St. Medical Office Building. He provides family medicine care to children and adults, as well as providing musculoskeletal care for all ages in his sports medicine practice. His office may be reached at 795-8465.
