TOPSHAM – Nancy C. MacDonald, 82, of the Post Road, Bowdoinham died Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cadigan Lodge, The Highlands, where she has been residing since early May of this year.
She was born in Woburn, Mass., Aug. 13, 1925, the daughter of E. Andrew and Ruth Hart Carlisle Peterson. She attended Waterboro High School and graduated from Northfield Seminary in 1944. She graduated from Burdette College, Boston in 1946.
She married Merle A. MacDonald, Aug. 1, 1945. They moved here from Massachusetts in 1947. He died Feb. 24, 1990.
She was a secretary in the math department at Bowdoin College for 22 years.
She volunteered in Bowdoinham in the Well Baby Clinic, helped start the school lunch program in Bowdoinham in 1950, and was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years. She was a life member of Merrymeeting Grange, member of Electa Chapter OES in Bowdoinham and was a member and of the permanent deaconate of First Parish Church, Brunswick.
She was a member of the Bowdoinham Historical Society, Friends of the Bowdoinham Public Library, volunteered at the Bowdoinham Community School Library, member of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary, was a volunteer at Mid Coast Hospital and a volunteer receptionist at First Parish Church.
In addition to being an avid reader, she played tennis and enjoyed traveling, knitting and cross-stitch.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas A. MacDonald, and his wife, Jeannette, of Poland and George M. MacDonald, and his wife, Tonia Boterf, of Belgrade; a daughter, Janice Jordan of Rumford, and her husband, Robert; a sister, Joanne C. Adams, and her husband, Dwight, of Augusta; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
