Dear Sun Spots: I am hoping you are able to help me.

Last winter, there was a lady who collected beads and more to send to Haiti. I lost her phone number. I also have a very large bag of fleece edges that I cut off the many rag blankets I made. I started making big balls to braid into whatever. It seems a shame to throw it all away. If anyone would like the bag, I will be happy to pass it along to them. I may be reached at 225-3974. Thanks for all your help. – No Name, Turner.

Answer:
Sun Spots wonders if in fact you are referring to Bunny’s Bracelets? She did not locate anyone featured in the column, collecting beads for Haiti. However, the Mynahan family are collecting beads to make bracelets. Each Bunny’s Bracelet features a bunny bead or charm in honor of Bunny Mynahan who died Dec. 15, 2005. The proceeds go to fund prostate cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and keep Bunny’s memory alive. As of June 14, 2007, on what would have been Bunny’s 80th birthday, $14,000 was donated to research in his memory.

Contact Dot Mynahan, founder of Bunny’s Bracelets at [email protected] or by phoning 650-3725. For more information about the bracelets’ history, check out www.bunnysbracelets.com. The site is still under construction, however bracelets may be purchased by contacting the e-mail above.

Regarding your fleece; have you considered contacting The SHAREcenter program in Auburn? It’s best to call first to ensure there’s someone available to accept your donation. In addition to donations, the center is low on school supplies. Anyone who has any extra should please contact them. They need: pencils, scissors, tape, pens, glue, markers, crayons, paper pads, folders, push pins, paper bags, paper clips, fasteners, pocket folders and more.

They are also seeking volunteers every Tuesday and Wednesday for some portion of the day from 1 to 6 p.m. Please call to schedule orientation. Volunteers are needed in blocks of two-plus hours or more. They can also use volunteers at other times. Contact them to discuss this.

For all those teachers out there, this is a free treasure trove you’ll want to check out. Teachers may pick up free supplies, office supplies, art paper, fabric, leather, widgets and more. Children and nonprofit groups also come in and create items from the assortment of donations.

Contact the SHAREcenter program, P.O. Box 800, Auburn, ME 04212-0800, 795-0972. The center is located on Academy Street in Auburn, in the Great Falls Performing Arts Center. You enter on the Academy Street side. It is open 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon the first and second Saturdays of each month. Closed school vacations, Auburn school snow days, holiday weekends.
