AUBURN – Members of the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA SilverSneakers class and staff recently had lunch and spent some time at Taber’s near Lake Auburn.

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is a comprehensive older-adult fitness program that addresses the needs of the older adult population.

SilverSneakers is designed exclusively for older adults and allows members to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. The program also offers opportunities for socializing and making new friends.

The group traveled to Taber’s for lunch after their exercise class. While there, they met with another group from the YMCA.

The Summer School Age Camp was also at Taber’s, playing miniature golf and having ice cream.

Enrollment in the SilverSneakers fitness program entitles the participant to the full use of all other YMCA amenities, including the fitness center, exercise classes, gym, pool and social and educational events. Individuals who have Medicare insurance through eligible Humana plans are covered 100 percent for YMCA membership.

The regular SilverSneakers classes are available for any YMCA members and the classes are good for those who may not have exercised in a while, as well as people who may have been injured or are going through rehabilitation.

The YMCA also offers a specially priced membership option for just the SilverSneakers program.

For more information about the program or any other YMCA program, stop by the facility at 62 Turner St., call 795-4095 or visit www.alymca.com.
