What transpired at last Tuesday’s Lewiston City Council meeting was totally horrifying. I could not believe what I was hearing and seeing. My sister is a wonderful human being who, like her husband, wants only to help this city. The offer that was put on the table for council people to vote on was extremely fair. I cannot believe how my sister’s name was thrown around and disrespected. All they had to do was vote on what was proposed. Between Stavros Mendros and Mayor Larry Gilbert, it never had a chance. If Gilbert did not agree, he should have discussed it with city staff and councilors in an executive meeting. And the kicker was his bringing up taking the property by eminent domain. I thought that was in extremely poor taste.
Gilbert won. He is the mayor. So why is he still picking on a councilor who only has a little more than four months left on the council?
He should let it go and put the city first on the agenda.
