LISBON – Registration for Lisbon Adult Education fall semester courses has begun, and classes will start in mid-September.

Computer courses include “Protecting Your Home Computer,” a six-week class starting Sept. 27, and “Introduction to Excel,” which will meet for six weeks starting Tuesday, Sept. 25.

An eight-week “Introduction to Word” class will start on Monday, Sept. 24. A “Computerize Keyboarding” class will begin Thursday, Sept. 20, and will meet for 10 weeks. For beginners, a “Computer Basics” class will begin Tuesday, Sept. 25.

More than 200 on-line courses are available, with classes starting each month and assistance for those new to on-line learning.

An electrician’s training program will be offered. “Electricity II” will start on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The class will meet for 15 weeks. The certificate is accepted by the Maine Electrical Licensing Board.

An “Accounting I” course will star Thursday, Sept. 20, and run for eight weeks. It will include maintaining journals, the general ledger and preparation of financial statements.

Health and fitness courses will include yoga, and beginner and continuing courses will start Tuesday, Sept. 25, for 10 weeks. Pilates will be offered from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, starting Monday, Sept. 24.

A line dancing course will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 25. No previous dance experience is necessary. All are welcome. Ballroom dancing, swing and waltz will be offered for six weeks from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 25. The class is for beginners and experienced dancers.

A Family Fun Walk will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Beaver Park. Participants should meet at the park entrance.

Standard first aid with adult, child and infant CPR will start on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The class will meet for three weeks from 6 to 9 p.m. An American Red Cross certified baby-sitting class will start on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The class will meet for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m.

A hunter safety class will meet on Oct. 9, 11, 16, 18 and 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. A “Fly Tying for Beginners” class will meet for five weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 25. All equipment and materials will be provided.

A beginning knitting class will begin Wednesday, Oct. 3. Students will learn all the basics, then do a simple project. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For those who know how to knit, a double-knit jiffy mittens class will start on Thursday, Oct. 4. Patterns dating back to the 1940s include a snowflake design or a skier.

A series of quilting courses will be offered. The first class will be a faux woven scarf using yarns and specialty threads. The course will start on Tuesday, Sept. 25, and meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Oct. 2, a freemotion stitching class will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Decorative painting, also known as tole painting, courses will be offered throughout the semester. The first class will start Wednesday, Oct. 3. Paints, project piece and other supplies will be provided and instruction is a step-by-step process that does not require art experience. Samples of the projects are available in the Lisbon Adult Education office.

An oil painting class will meet for eight weeks starting Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Drawing skills are not necessary.

Several financial planning courses will be offered. “Learning the New IRA/401k Strategies” will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. “Strong Women – Powerful Financial Strategies” will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Readers Anonymous, the Lisbon book club, meets on the last Thursday of the month. The first meeting will be held Sept. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The book will be “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult. New members are welcome.

Academic courses will include chemistry with lab and “Algebra I.” A college math refresher class will be offered for those who need a review for college placement tests or employment.

An English literature and composition class will be available for adults enrolled in the high school diploma program.

General Educational Development testing is offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and evening.
