AUBURN – Arthur M. Ames, 93, of Auburn and Guilford, died Aug. 27, at an Auburn health care facility.

He was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Guilford, son of Melvin and Nellie (Smith) Ames. He worked for the Guilford Woolen Mill for many years in several of the departments.

He was a member of the Mt. Kineo Masonic Lodge in Guilford, the IOOF Lodge in Dover-Foxcroft, the encampment in Skowhegan and in later years was active in the IOOF in Auburn. He was a member of the state and national granges, the Rebekahs, the OES and was a member of the Guilford Fire Department for many years. He was also a member of Guilford Center Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, John Ames of Morrisdale, Pa., and Thomas Ames of Jewett City, Conn.; two daughters, Mary Colman of Charleston, S.C., and Sally Clark of Abbot and Zepherhills, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Geneva (Moulton) Ames.
