NEW GLOUCESTER – An 82-year-old New Gloucester woman was in critical condition Tuesday night with injuries suffered when her car and a tractor-trailer collided on Route 100.

Police said Hazel Littlefield of Intervale Road suffered a deflated lungs, broken ribs and a broken leg among other injuries in the 12:30 p.m. wreck.

Littlefield was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where she remained Tuesday night.

“They’re cautiously optimistic” about her condition, said Maine State Trooper Steven Green, who was leading the investigation.

Green said Littlefield was crossing Route 100 from Intervale Road to Bald Hill Road when her Oldsmobile Cutlass and the tractor-trailer driven by William Manley, 46, of Windsor collided. The rig plowed into the driver’s side door of Littlefield’s car, police said.

Manley had been driving north on Route 100 in the tractor-trailer owned by his business, Manley Transportation.

“He was loaded down with produce,” Green said.

A LifeFlight helicopter flew Littlefield to the hospital.

Maine State Police remained at the crash site for several hours.
