LEWISTON – Omer J. Bernier, 85, of Pauline Street, Sabattus, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 27, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Westbrook, March 3, 1922, the son of Jules and Isabelle Desjardins Bernier. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and was the recipient of the Silver Star for bravery. He was married in 1946 to Doris A. Lambert, who predeceased him Jan. 24, 1999. He was employed by S.D. Warren/Scott Paper Co. in Westbrook prior to his retirement.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish, American Legion, the Marine Corps League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by four sons, Paul Bernier, and wife, Diane, of Statesville, N.C., Norman Bernier, and Nancy, of Biddeford, Mark Bernier, and wife, Donna, of Buxton and Gary Bernier, and wife, Cathy, of Limington; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; four sisters, Fern Laliberte and Muriel Peisel, both of Gorham, Gloria Lamperon, and husband, Roland, of Westbrook and Pauline Brassard of Brunswick, and his companion of seven years, Laurianne Hynes, of Lewiston.
