RUMFORD – The Board of Appeals held its annual reorganizational meeting Tuesday night, electing a chairman and welcoming two new members.
New Chairman Joseph Roberts, a member of the board for two years, said recently appointed member Kevin Saisi was elected as vice chairman. Roberts replaces Len Greaney, who did not seek reappointment. The board had not had a vice chairman previously.
Leonard McKenna was elected secretary, replacing Linda French, who resigned earlier in the year. Harry Powers was also recently appointed to the board. The fifth member is Bob Richard.
The alternate member is Jeremy Vashaw, a position that votes only when a regular member is not present. A second alternate member position is vacant.
Roberts also chairs the Land Use Ordinance Committee, is vice chairman of the Charter Commission, serves on the Downtown Revitalization Committee, and is first vice president of the River Valley Chamber of Commerce and president-elect of the Rotary.
He said he plans to provide each member of the board copies of the town’s charter and ordinances to assist in their work.
The Board of Appeals meets only when an applicant disagrees with a decision by the Planning Board, code enforcement officer, or town official disciplinary matters.
If petitioners disagree with a decision by the board, they may take their case to a superior court.
Roberts said the last time the board met was about six months ago.
Meetings are held in the Municipal Building and are open in public.
