WATERFORD – The seventh annual Waterford Fall Foliage 5K Road Race will take place on Sunday, Sept. 23, rain or shine.
The one-mile Fun Run will get under way at 11:30 a.m., followed at noon by the 5K race and the fitness walk, starting at the Waterford Flats by the Commons. Roads will close at 11:20 a.m. It is asked that there be no baby strollers or pets in the race.
Registration papers are available in various stores, at [email protected], by calling 583-2603 or on the day of the race.
Proceeds go to the Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund, in memory of a long-time Waterford Memorial School teacher and mentor. The race raises enough each year to award up to eight scholarships to graduating seniors from Waterford.
The 5K follows the main road to Bear Mountain Inn, with Keoka Lake alongside for part of the run. A long-sleeved T-shirt is given to the first 100 preregistrants. The shirts are different each year and are designed by Donna McCarraher. There is a $5 fee for the Fun Run.
In conjunction with the race, the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor the Great Western Maine Chili Cook-Off. There will be free chili for the runners, and chili for sale and judging for the rest.
