PORTLAND (AP) – Police say a crackdown on prostitution led to the arrests of 11 people, including some working people on their lunch break.

Police officers targeted the Parkside neighborhood after receiving complaints and intelligence about an increase in street-level prostitution. The department used undercover female officers during the sting from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Police Lt. Bill Preis said the 11 men facing a misdemeanor charge of engaging a prostitute ranged in age from 18 to 60.

Preis said that despite the flare-up in the Parkside neighborhood, prostitution generally has kept a lower profile in recent years as street solicitation has been replaced by computers to make contact.
