GRAY – Two Bridgton men are facing a list of charges, including attempted murder, after a home invasion Sunday morning.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Andrus Fowler, 49, of 781 Kansas Road, and Dale Leon Morton, 44, of 51 New Colonial Drive, forced their way into an apartment at 270 Mayal Road around 8:54 a.m.

Home at the time of the invasion were two male adults, one female adult, a 3-year-old, and a 4-month-old baby, a news release stated.

Fowler and Morton were armed with a single handgun, and once inside the apartment, proceeded to “pistol whip” one of the adult males at the apartment until he was unconscious, police said.

The two suspects then attempted to throw the unconscious man out of a second-story window before fleeing from the apartment, officials said.

According to WGME 13’s Web site, the 28-year-old victim of the assault was treated for his injuries on the scene.

The two other adults and children home at the time of the invasion were unharmed.

Cumberland County deputies caught up with Fowler and Morton on Route 100 and took them into custody.

The two Bridgton men are being held at the Cumberland County Jail on $500,000 single surety or $250,000 cash bail. In the event that they do not post bail, they will be arraigned either Tuesday or Wednesday at Portland Superior Court.

An assistant district attorney of Cumberland County has been briefed on the incident, the news release stated.

Both Fowler and Morton have been charged with the following: attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, burglary, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, felony theft, possession of a firearm by a felon, and robbery.

Fowler faces an additional charge of possession of a schedule W drug, which is a Class C felony.
