Literacy, Basic Ed share quarters
AUBURN – Former neighbors, Auburn Basic Adult Education and Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin have moved to the third floor of Auburn Hall, 60 Court St.. The shared space will allow both organizations, who partner on several projects, to collaborate even further and offer more educational opportunities for adults in the community.
Auburn Adult Basic Education is offering classes in basic reading, writing, math and General Educational Development preparation in a small group setting. Courses for high school diploma completion are also available.
Instruction for English language learners is available in partnership with Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin. Registration in person is required. For an appointment, call Juliette Dzija at 333-6601, ext. 1311.

Volunteers are needed for English conversation partners, tutoring adults in basic reading, writing and/or math skills, and working one-on-one with English language learners.
The agency also needs trained volunteers to tutor parents in the family literacy program and instruct inmates in the Androscoggin County Jail.
Tutor training will be offered on the third floor of Auburn Hall on two consecutive Saturdays, Sept. 15 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is required. For information, call Tahlia Chamberlain at 333-6601, ext. 1321, or e-mail [email protected].
