AUBURN – Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn is accepting fall registrations and offering a new evening class.

Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn, a parent/child music and movement program, is accepting registrations for the fall. Classes will be on Thursdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Auburn, and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lewiston. A new evening class will be held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s. Classes will be added as necessary.

The goal of Music Together is to develop every child’s opportunity for basic music competence by encouraging experience rather than learning information about music. Families are encouraged to attend class together, so younger children and older children in the same family can learn music and movement activities to enjoy at home. Classes are geared toward children ranging in age from birth to 5.

In a Music Together class, 12 children and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions.

Each semester is based on a collection of 30 songs through which the elements of music such as melody, harmony and rhythm are explored. Each participating family receives the collection of songs on two recordings and in an illustrated songbook as part of the registration fee.

Adults and children sit in a circle and participate during class. Music Together classes are led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills. Children have the opportunity to play instruments and improvise and dance to many styles of music.

Music Together will begin the fall semester on the week of Sept. 10. For more information or to register, contact director/teacher Cherie Szustak at 777-5548.
