AUBURN – Richard Martin, 60, of Auburn died at his residence Friday, Aug. 31.
He was the son of Lucien J. and the late Gisele (Lemieux) Martin and was born Jan. 18, 1947, in Lewiston. Dick graduated from Edward Little High School. He attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education.
His University days included a four-year tour in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1974. After graduation, he taught in several schools throughout the United States. He also worked as a photographer and interviewer for WGAM-TV for six years and for WMTW-TV for four years. He was most recently employed by New Beginnings of Lewiston.
He had many, many friends and was well liked by all he met. He will always be remembered by his warm heart and sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and meeting people along the way. His recent travels took him to Lake Mead, Nev., to visit his son and grandson.
He will be remembered for his passion of all sports. He coached both tennis and ice hockey and was an avid fan of the New York Giants football team and the Boston Red Sox. He was also an avid golf and tennis player. He had a great passion for music and enjoyed “jamming” with his friends. He certainly touched the hearts of many people in his lifetime and will always be fondly remembered by all.
He is survived by his father, Lucien of Lewiston; his son, Meagen Martin, and grandson, Zackery Martin, of Lake Mead, Nev.; his sister, Patricia Gray of Newport, Vt.; his brother, Peter Martin of Auburn; several aunts, uncles, nephews and cousins; and the mother of his son, Carol Gagnon, formerly of Madawaska.
