Benefit supper
OXFORD – A benefit supper will be held for Jo Bradeen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Grace Fellowship Church, Poplar Street. Menu will be potluck with homemade pies. Cost for adults is $6; children 12 and under $3.
Sunday service
PARIS – The 10 a.m. worship service at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, on Sunday, Sept. 9, will feature some of the most requested compositions played by Forest Perkins, church organist. The service will be followed by brunch in Good Cheer Hall. All are welcome.
Blood drive
NORWAY – An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Stephens Memorial Hospital, 18 Main St.
Seniors lunch
BETHEL – Bethel Senior Citizens Club will have a meeting and lunch at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Rooster’s Roadhouse, Mayville Road. Members are asked to bring an item for the auction. The cost for lunch is $7.50. For reservations, call Nancy at 824-3350 or Arlene at 824-2877.
Library programs
BRYANT POND – The monthly programs at the Whitman Memorial Library are starting up again after taking the summer off. The second Thursday of the month will remain the same, but the time has changed to 2 p.m. Therefore on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. South Paris author Pat Gott will give a presentation on her newest book, “So You Want to be a Cowgirl.” The book is based on her adventures being a horse wrangler and trail guide for three summers in Wyoming. The public is welcome and admission is free.
Kugell leads parade
OXFORD – The Oxford County Fair Grand Parade will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on the fairgrounds racerack and the grand marshal will be Ron Kugell.
It is an honored position reserved for people who have earned the respect and admiration of others. Kugell has been married for 53 years to the former Marcella Mills and has four children and eight grandchildren.
His many titles and positions include former teacher and assistant principal of Oxford Hills High School and 40 years as Oxford police chief. He remains active in education as chairman of SAD 17 board of directors and he is an owner/operator of elderly and family housing projects.
Bridge play
NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Bridge Club met on Aug. 31 at the Fare Share Co-op. Results for the game were: first in A, Adele Bendes and Kathy Feld; second, Luther Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Richard Balian and Bailey Geeslin; fourth, Richard Allen and Pete Cummings. Placing first in B were Suzanne Andrews and Carol Curran.
All interested players are welcome and a partner is guaranteed.
