RUMFORD – Joseph Buccina, 93, of Sanders Street, Mexico, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Rumford Hospital.
He was born in Mexico, on May 3, 1914, a son of Vito and Clelia (Vecchione) Buccina.
He was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1931. While in high school, he was an avid baseball player.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed for more than 40 years with the Oxford Paper Co.
He was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church.
He was a member of the 25 and 40-year club at Oxford Paper Co., and he was also a member of the Rumford Lodge of Elks 862, and the American Legion.
He enjoyed watching sports, and was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary A. Buccina of Mexico, and Anna B. Riordan, and husband, James, of Rumford; a nephew, Hugh Riordan, and wife, Sally, of South China; and two nieces, Susan Starr of Scarborough and Judith Willette, and husband, Kent, of Yarmouth.
He was predeceased by his parents.
