LEWISTON – The Lewiston Public Library will begin a new evening storytime at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10.

Storytime is a free program for preschoolers ages 2 to 5 and their parents, and it includes stories and lively songs. This year’s theme is “Oh, the Places We’ll Go” and features stories from around the world. Preschool storytime is about half an hour and meets weekly. Reservations are not required.

The new storytime will replace the Monday morning offering. Tuesday morning’s storytime and Friday’s babytime will remain the same.

The library staff hopes the new time will allow more families to take advantage of the fun program. In many other libraries throughout the country, the evening storytime is well-attended and popular among parents.

“Evening storytime tends to serve a different group of people, and we’re excited for this new opportunity to reach out,” said Beth Almquist, storylady at the library. Almquist is a music teacher and mother of three boys.

The evening program will round out the story offerings at the Lewiston Public Library. The library hosts two other storytimes: Tuesdays at 10 a.m. for ages 2 to 5 and Fridays at 10 a.m. for ages 0 to 2.
