PORTLAND (AP) – The search for a missing Coast Guard seaman who fell from a tour boat into Portland Harbor changed from a search-and-rescue effort into a recovery mission on Tuesday.
Divers with the Maine State Police continued diving in the harbor and around waterfront piers, aided by a private sonar-equipped boat, looking for the body of Vincent Colon, 24, of New York.
Colon was off duty and with a group aboard a party boat when he fell into the water about 100 yards from the Maine State Pier about 9 p.m. Sunday. The search was suspended on Monday night.
“This is strictly recovery at this point,” Paul Conner, a search and recovery controller with the Coast Guard, said Tuesday. Colon was stationed aboard the Coast Guard cutter Marcus Hannah in South Portland.
