GREENWOOD – Quick responses by four area fire departments contained a blaze at 357 Howe Hill Road to an upstairs, back bedroom, said town Fire Chief Jim Owens.
The fire call came in shortly before 7 p.m., Owens said, and the house was located only a mile from the fire station. “It just happened we were having a training session, and it only took us five minutes to get there,” the chief said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but, Owens said, a neighbor alerted firefighters that two cats were missing. They were located in the basement and brought out by Tri-Town Rescue personnel.
The owner of the house, a party named Lane from Massachusetts, was notified by someone who works for the owner and was at the scene, Owens said. He also said he did not believe the owners were living there, but that a basement apartment was being rented.
In addition to Greenwood and Tri-Town Rescue, Woodstock, Paris and West Paris also responded to the fire that took 10 minutes to put out.
Owens said the cause of the blaze was undetermined.
