NORTH TURNER – William “Bud” Osborn Trask, 79, of Trask Road, North Turner, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and his faithful cat, Snooper. He had fought several forms of cancer for many years, and finally liver cancer for the last 14 months.

He was born Nov. 16, 1927, the son of Frederick Trask and Florence (Seavey) Trask. At the age of 11, he went to live with Harry and Maude Abbott of North Turner, whom he grew to love dearly. He attended Turner schools and later attended the Washington School of Art.

He worked as a self-employed truck driver in the 1940s until he injured his back. He then went to work in Jay, hand bending grommets, which were used to make torpedo nets for the Navy.

In 1954, he worked as a bed laster at Livermore Falls Shoe. Several years later, he joined Corey Last Remodeling in Auburn. The company was bought out by Jones and Vining in 1966, where he worked as supervisor of the Lincoln Street, Lewiston plant until 1975. When the new Jones and Vining plant opened in 1979 and began producing unit soles, he took on maintenance duties. He built some of the first automated mold injection machinery in Lewiston at that time. He continued to work for them until his retirement at the age of 62.

His years of experience crafting wood and metal were evident in the toys he created for his grandchildren and friends. His model wood and metal trucks are a yard long and stand 2 feet high and testify to his craftsmanship and patience. He also crafted several cemetery signs and gates for area towns, many hope chests, toy boxes, rocking horses, bureaus, cradles and more.

He spent many hours in his basement studio drawing and painting. He also enjoyed his camping expeditions to Moosehead Lake and other parts of the state, with his wife, grandchildren and the dog. He raised several Keeshonds over the years and always had a dog at his side.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annie L. Thompson Trask; three daughters, Gail Holt, and her husband, Billy, of Fryeburg, Betty McLaughlin, and her husband, Michael, of Norway and Deanna Damon of North Turner; a half brother, Richard Hood of Hinsdale, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews..

He was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers, Orville and Justin Trask; his son-in-law, Fenton E. Damon; stepsisters, Adelma and Ada Hood; and a stepbrother, Leslie Hood.
