AUBURN – Diana Kruszewski broke a deadlock late in the first half, and goalie Kayla Cummings kept the ball out of the net for the rest of the game to lead unbeaten Edward Little to a 2-1 triumph over Lawrence in KVAC field hockey on Thursday.

Edward Little (3-0) took a 1-0 lead on Jessica Campbell’s goal, but Whitney Pollard soon tied it for the Bulldogs (2-1). Kruszewski scored the game-winner with 5:25 left in the half when her crossing shot deflected into the cage off a Lawrence stick.

Cummings finished with five saves, while Lawrence goalie Jordan Carter stopped five shots.

Soccer

Winthrop 2, Livermore Falls-Jay 1

LIVERMORE FALLS – Lindsey Gordon scored on a penalty shot and teammate Erin Belanger added another in the first half, allowing the Ramblers (2-1) to escape with a 2-1 victory over Livermore Falls-Jay in a girls’ soccer game Thursday.

Katie Webster scored an unassisted goal for the Wildcats (0-2). The Ramblers outshot the Wildcats, 25-11.

Mt. Blue 4, Lawrence 2

FARMINGTON – Pia Laine notched a hat trick as Mt. Blue bounced to a 4-2 win over Lawrence in KVAC girls’ soccer action Thursday.

The Bulldogs (2-1) took an early 2-1 lead at the midpoint on goals from Bailey Paquette and Amy Pottle. But the Cougars (3-0) powered up their defense in the second half to shut out Lawrence down the stretch.

Goalie Ashley Bonney made 14 saves for the Bulldogs, while Emily Deane turned away 12 shots for Mt. Blue to record the win.

Boys’ soccer

Winthrop 3, Mountain Valley 1

WINTHROP – Tim Gingras netted a pair of unassisted goals to lead Winthrop to a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley in MVC boys’ soccer action Thursday.

Tew also tallied to complete the scoring. Ryan Michaud made 11 saves in net to record the win.

The Ramblers (1-1) were up 2-0 before Jacob Arsenault scored for the Falcons (1-1) with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Bryan Canwell turned aside three shots in net for Mountain Valley.

Mt. Blue 3, Lawrence 0

FAIRFIELD – Mustafa Savashan scored the opening goal as Mt. Blue blanked Lawrence 3-0 in KVAC boys’ soccer Thursday.

The Cougars (3-0) capitalized on first-half opportunities to take a 2-0 lead at intermission. Ben Russell scored the second goal of the game.

Cody Fabian made nine saves in net for Lawrence, while Devin Zamboni had three stops for Mt. Blue.
