FARMINGTON – The community is invited to breakfast at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the Fellowship Hall at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church.

Those attending will learn about Sunday school classes for all ages, from 3 to adult. Classes will start at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. Worship will move to 10:30 a.m. beginning this Sunday. Pastor Susan Crane will preach on “Pilgrim’s Progress,” based on Luke 14:25-33.

Forum on flu

SUMNER – An informational forum on pandemic flu will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the East Sumner Congregational Church. Speakers will be Sharon Proctor, registered nurse and infection prevention practitioner, and Mike Hatch, safety and security officer at Stephens Memorial Hospital. The forum is being sponsored by the Sumner Emergency Management Committee.

Greyhound Day

AUGUSTA – Maine Greyhound Placement Service will hold its semiannual open house/reunion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, at the MGPS Adoption Center, 249 Old Belgrade Road. It will be held rain or shine.

Activities for dogs and people alike will include costume contests, paw painting, lure coursing demonstrations, doggie spa, raffle items, first aid seminar and pet communicator. All dogs are welcome on a leash. For more information, phone Scott at 626-2893 or Mary at 846-4707

Hike the river

NEWRY – The second annual Hike the River for a Cure will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Sunday River Shipyard Brew Haus White Cap Lodge.

Proceeds will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Fund.

The Maine Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well being of Maine people.

All money raised by Hike the River for a Cure will stay in Maine and go toward scientific research, professional and public education and patient support programs.
