RUMFORD – Maurice Charles Gallant, 82, of Knox Street, Rumford, died on Sept. 5, at Rumford Community Hospital, with his loving family at his bedside.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1924, the son of Alyre Charles Gallant and Mary McPherson Gallant. He graduated in 1943 from Stephens High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He served honorably from 1943 to 1946, returning home with the rank of corporal.

He worked at the local paper company and retired with 40 years of service from Boise Cascade Corp. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

On Nov. 11, 1950, he married Marion Doris Gallant, and they had six children.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Maurice, Robert “Gee” and Mark; daughters, Marion Gallant and Maureen “Trinket” Fergola; six grandchildren, Aaron, Craig and Brady Fergola, Mark Jr., Amanda and John Gallant; and three brothers, Raymond “Red,” John and Thomas Gallant.

He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, Richard; and two brothers, Alexander and William Gallant.

First and foremost he loved his family and the time he spent with his grandchildren at his camp at Roxbury Pond. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
