PARIS – A public hearing on changes to the Planning Board, Appeals Board and addressing ordinances will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, followed by the selectmen’s meeting at 7.
Both sessions are at the fire station on Western Avenue.
The Planning and Appeals boards ordinances dictate the appointment procedure as well as the duties of the two municipal bodies. In addition, the Appeals Board ordinance outlines when variances are permitted and the procedure for making an appeal.
The addressing ordinance is designed to identify buildings for location, emergency services, and postal deliveries. Changes to the document include rewriting a section explaining the display of the numbers. The responsibility of assigning the numbers is changed from the town manager to an E-911 addressing officer.
The ordinances were the subject of discussion by selectmen at a July meeting. Selectman Raymond Glover proposed an amendment to the Appeals Board ordinance allowing a new election to be held on the board if a vacancy occurs in the chairman’s or vice chairman’s position. The amendment was defeated 3-2.
Glover also noted the wife of Selectman Glen Young serves on the Planning Board.
The revised ordinances state that neither a municipal officer nor his or her spouse may serve on the Planning or Appeals Boards.
