Soap box derby club to host memorial race
WEST PARIS – The West Paris Downhill Soap Box Derby Club is well into its seventh season, having completed its third race with a good turnout.
Eight boys and girls participated in the junior division and six participated in the senior division. The races are free and open to all youths ages 7 to 17.
The derby club currently has two cars that have been donated by the West Paris Masonic Lodge 182, which are available to those without cars on a first-come, first-served basis.
The races are run with volunteers and have been made possible by donations from individuals, area businesses and clubs. The racing equipment has outgrown the storage space and the club is in need of funding to build a 16-by-16 foot shed to store equipment. Contact Katie at 674-2628 for more information.
The West Paris Downhill Derby will run its Arthur Dean Memorial Race at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, on Kingsbury Street. All are welcome.
