LEWISTON – Contemporary folk singer Pierce Pettis will bring his wry and warm performance style to the Maple Room Friday, Sept. 14. Also known for his probing, masterful songwriting, Pettis has won the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival and garnered a Country Music Award for his song, “You Move Me,” recorded by Garth Brooks.
He has appeared on NPR’s “E-Town,” “Morning Edition,” “World Cafe” and “Mountain Stage.” He has done his time as an in-house songwriter for Alabama’s legendary Muscle Shoals studio and for Polygram/Universal in Nashville.
Performing Songwriter Magazine described Pettis as “one of the more vital and critically acclaimed folk stars of recent years.”
Opening for Pettis will be 17-year-old Clara Berry of Kennebunk whose piano compositions are richly textured with emotion and quiet beauty.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $35, are available online at www.themapleroom.info and at the door. The Maple Room, which has 80 seats, is at 22 Park St.
