FARMINGTON – Franklin Memorial Hospital has formed a new partnership with MaineGeneral’s Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care with the arrival of Dr. Andrew Hertler, a medical oncologist and hematologist. He will be providing cancer care at Franklin Memorial Hospital starting Sept. 13. Dr. Hertler has practiced in central Maine since 1996.
Dr. Hertler is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He is affiliated with the American Society of Hematology, as well as the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Hertler’s professional interests include general medical oncology, clinical trials and research aimed at development of the best practices in community cancer programs. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his residency at University of Michigan affiliated hospitals. He later completed an oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
In addition to treating cancer patients at the Farmington hospital, Dr. Hertler also serves as medical director of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta. The new $42 million outpatient center opened for patients on July 9.
