FREEPORT – Lloyd Edgar Volckening, 79, of Topsham and Rangeley, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport where he had resided since April of this year.
He was born April 3, 1928, in East Orange, N.J., the son of Lloyd Irwin and Madelon (Bartlett) Volckening. He was a graduate of Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., and on Nov. 22, 1952, married Elizabeth Ost in Glen Ridge, N.J.
He was a retired vice president of Ivers-Lee in Newark, N.J.
Lloyd loved spending his summers in Rangeley, where he was a member of the Rangeley Congregational Church and the Rangeley Guides and Sportsmen’s Association. He was a former member of Rotary International Club in Newark and Caldwell, N.J., and was a member of the Moorestown Wise Men’s Club in Moorestown, N.J. He always enjoyed being with his family and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Topsham and Rangeley; one son, William Lloyd Volckening of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Volckening of Northfield, Mass.; a son-in-law, Stephen Roy of Northfield, Mass.; special cousins, Robert Drury, Harris Drury, Debra Drury and Diane Drury and their families.
