LEWISTON – Stephany P. Hughes, 90, a resident of Saco, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living in Lewiston.

She was born in Rumford on Dec. 13, 1916, a daughter of Telespor and Kazimera Zewark Placzankis. Stephany graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, class of 1933. She spent one year at Bay Path Jr. College in Springfield, Mass., and graduated in 1936 from Bliss Business College in Lewiston.

She was a court stenographer for the U.S. military while her husband was serving his country in the service. She also was a secretary for the Oxford newspaper in Rumford for 10 years. In 1958, the family moved to Saco. She was employed by the Saco Public Health Department for six years.

She enjoyed skiing and golfing. Her hobbies included knitting, ceramics and gardening.

She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church where she was a volunteer for many of the church activities.

She is survived by a son, Michael S. Hughes of Auburn; a daughter, Mary Jean Boutin of Biddeford; a grandson, Kevin; and a niece and nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Hughes, in March of 1988. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
