Emily Goss of Mechanic Falls has completed 150 hours of volunteer work at the Root Cellar in Portland. Goss is a third-year student at the University of Maine at Farmington, where she is majoring in rehabilitation services and minoring in Spanish.

The Root Cellar, located on Washington Avenue, is an interdenominational mission meeting the physical and spiritual needs of innercity youth and their families by engaging the Christian community in volunteer ministries to build relationships that demonstrate the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the summer Goss helped with kids programs, food and clothing distribution, the teen center and also sat in on a citizenship class.
