LIVERMORE FALLS – High school drama teacher Anne Weatherbee is looking for people interested in taking a ride in a giant museum elevator where artwork comes to life.

“This production will be an acting workshop creation,” she said. “We will use the setting of an elevator to explore characters and develop scenes.”

The first brainstorm sessions to develop ideas and scenes are at 2 and 6 p.m. Thursday at the high school.

Weatherbee conceived the idea while visiting museums this summer. One of them was a huge elevator – she said it was the biggest she’d ever been in – to carry extremely large pieces of art. She got to thinking about its size and the artworks it carried and came up with the idea for a Livermore Falls Community Theatre project: “A Ride in a Museum Elevator.”

What if the artwork came to life once the doors closed and interacted with the people riding in the elevator? Weatherbee asked Monday.

Students in her high school technical theater class have been building an elevator-like enclosure complete with a platform revolving wall that will practically fill the high school stage.

Inside, actors and actresses will be able to let their imaginations roam free.

Weatherbee is looking for people interested in coming to take a ride in the museum elevator and creating the character they always wanted to be, she said.

Actors and actresses could either portray artwork such as a sculpture, a statue or framed artwork, or elevator riders. She’s hoping someone wants to portray one of Picasso’s women, she said.

The production will take minimal rehearsal time and have short scenes, she said.

Anyone who cannot make one of the two brainstorming sessions may call Weatherbee at 897-3428, ext. 112, to make other arrangements.

The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, on the high school stage.
