AUBURN – Donald J. Estabrook, 72, of 58 East Auburn Lumber Road., Auburn, died Monday, Sept. 10, at the Hospice House with his family by his side.
He was born in Newburgh, N.Y., on Feb. 6, 1935, the son of Joseph and Grace Estabrook and grew up and attended schools in Newburgh, N.Y.
After his education, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Marines for 13 years. He served during the Vietnam Conflict in special forces as a Force Recon Marine and had received the Silver Star and two Purple hearts.
After his service to his country, he went to work as a police officer in San Diego, Calif., and as a firefighter in Illinois. He moved to Maine, and worked as a safety engineer for Bath Iron Works for many years and later as a safety coordinator for St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he had just retired.
He is survived by his wife, Hahlioa “Jeannie” (Berlin) Estabrook, whom he married on Sept. 24, 1978; his son, Sean Estabrook of Farmington; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Autumn and Kaylie Estabrook.
