LEWISTON – Harold “Babe” Marcel Theberge of Turner went to heaven on Sept. 10. His loving family was by his side.
He was born on March 23, 1938, at home in Auburn, to Michel Lorenzo and Anna (Bard) Theberge.
He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1957 (proud to be a member of the last class to graduate from the “old” ELHS). He went to work as a truck driver for Bird and Son learning to operate big rigs.
On April 18, 1959, he married his sweetheart, Frances (Champagne) Theberge. They were happily married for 22 years until her untimely death in 1981. On July 2, 1982, he married Gail Libby McNeil. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the New England Patriots.
In the mid-1960s, he went to work as a tractor-trailer driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., where he drove long haul and eventually earned a spot delivering on a more local basis. After the company went out of business in 1993, he went to work as a school bus driver substitute for the Auburn School Department, and later was hired fulltime by the ASD. He enjoyed his retirement as he was able to garden, enjoy his family and his time at home.
He was one of the founding members of St. Philip’s parish, where he had served as devoted eucharistic minister, lecturer and Father’s Day banquet worker. In his childhood, he had served as an altar boy for years at Sacred Heart church. He was a devout Catholic and loved to worship at St. Philip’s.
