NORWAY – Joyce Grover Gouin, 76, of Norway, died Sunday, Sept. 9, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in East Stoneham on Jan. 5, 1931, the daughter of Pearly and Helen McAllister Grover. She graduated from Norway High School in 1949, and Gorham State Teachers College in 1953. She taught at Chester, Conn., for three years, Minot Consolidated for a year, West Paris for 14 years, and retired in 1990 after 13 years at the Guy E. Rowe School in Norway.

She married Arthur Gouin on June 23, 1956. She was past tent president, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, past department president, Department of Maine-DUVCW, past national counselor-DUVCW, a member of the Second Congregational Church, Circle 3, Women’s Fellowship, chairman of the board of Deacons and Chaplain, Oxford Chapter 168, O.E.S.

She was also a member of Zeta Chapter-Delta Kappa Gamma and Stone-Smart American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Norway; a daughter, Lesley Dean, and her husband, Gary, of Stoneham; grandsons, Andrew Dean and Ryan Dean, both of Stoneham; a brother-in-law, Donald Gouin of Norway; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Peter; and three brothers, Rodney, Keith L. and Dwight Grover.
