BRIDGTON – Richard E. Wood, known to most as Woody, of Falmouth, died as the result of an accidental fall on Saturday, Sept. 8.
He was born Feb. 1, 1954, to Ellen M. and William D. Wood. He graduated from Falmouth High School in 1972. He worked in the construction industry as an excavator operator, notably working for H.E Sargent then of Old Town, and for the past 12 years for H.C. Crooker & Sons of Topsham. In the 1990s, he met his soul-mate, Robin, and they began a life together.
Known as a free spirit, he enjoyed sailing, loved nature and spent time gardening vegetables and flowers. From youth onward, he was an avid motorcyclist. Horseback riding with his wife, Robin was a favorite pursuit. Over the years, he traveled extensively across the United States, dividing his time between Maine in the summers and the southwest in the winters.
He is survived by his soul-mate, Robin; her daughter, Faith; his father, William D. Wood of Falmouth; his siblings, Patricia Wood of Cape Elizabeth, Robert Wood of Durham and Scott and Anne Wood of Westbrook; and six loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Ellen M. Wood, by one year.
