Bank needs help

POLAND – Poland Community Church Tri-Town Food Bank supports approximately 35 families a month in Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls. At this time the cupboards are bare. Staff is asking surrounding communities to help fill the cupboards.

Make donations to Linda Laskey, at 998-4227, 1212 Maine St., Poland, ME 04274. Deliveries can be made from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the food bank.

LEWISTON – “Look Good … Feel Better,” the American Cancer Society’s program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment, will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center, 12 High St., Suite 103. Classes open

LEWISTON – Lewiston Adult Education has many classes scheduled to begin throughout the fall. There are more than 20 new options for learning availthroughout the next few weeks.

Scrapbooking workshops will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 18 and 27. The “Science of Magic” is a one-night workshop scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 25. “eBay: The Art of the Sale” has been rescheduled to begin on Sept. 25.

“Bulb Basics,” “Parenting for Teens” and yoga are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 2. “What You Need to Know about Long-Term Care” is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 3. A “New England Curiosities Tour” will take place in the seacoast New Hampshire area on Friday, Oct. 5, and “In the Words of Shakespeare,” a dramatic reading class, will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Legion to meet

LEWISTON – Post 22, American Legion, will hold a membership meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. The agenda will include an update on membership and finances; planning for a spaghetti supper on Oct. 19 for early bird members who have paid their 2008 membership dues by that date; and planning for two scholarships given to relatives of Post 22 members who have been accepted to a college or a school of higher learning. Tank talk

LEWISTON – “Dive Tanks Aren’t Just for the Bends Anymore” will be the topic of a St. Mary’s Entrees to Health Series talk at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Lepage Conference Center, 99 Campus Ave.

Dr. Robert Abrahamsen and Sue Bowie, RN, Regional Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, will lead a discussion on the ways the technology is creating cures for diabetics, cancer patients with radiation burns and other hard-to-heal wounds.
